The contest is divided in two parts.
First part: All teams perform some test ( 50 questions) in written form within 45 minutes,
and submit one set of answers to the jury. The test is offered in four languages – Latvian,
Estonian, Lithuanian, Russian. Maximal score is 50 points. If two (or more) teaks pick
just equal amount of points, the team who gives better answer to extra question (some

of the contest. If 10 teams or less number take part in the first part, 6 teams are selected. If
there are 11 or more teams at the beginning, eight teams pass to the second part.

The second part proceeds in play-off mode in levels: quarterfinal, semifinal, match for 3rd place,
final. Two teams compete in a match. Questions for the second part are made in Rusian language and
presented on a screen. Besides text, additional information may appear in form of picture (of sound-
Teams may think and discuss for answer 30-60 seconds ; time depends on difficulty of the question
and is announced by referee. Then members of both teams give their answers in written form in
Russian language (proper nouns may be written in original language). Teams earn 1 point for each
true answer. (Jury trends to avoid half-points at evaluation).
The questions prepared for the second part are grouped in three packages according to level.
Quarterfinal package contains 32 themes (topics) numbered 1- 32, semifinal package (also for 3rd
place match) 36 themes nr 33- 68, final package 16 themes nr 69-84. During the game, teams in
turn choose theme numbers and get (for both teams) corresponding set of questions joined under
some theme title. In most cases, question content corresponds well to theme title, but for some part,
question essence and theme title may be related in formal or unusual manner. If the theme has been
chosen and played yet, it is removed from choice and will not appear again in this day contest.
Distance of match is stated : 8 themes for each of quarterfinals, 12 themes for each of semifinal (as
well as for 3rd place match), 16 themes for final. If one team reaches big advance in score and has
ensured win entirely, the match is finished before full distance.
If stated distance of match comes to draw (equal score), additional theme is chosen by a team. If
after some question some team gets advance in score, they are winner of this match. If score remains
equal, the next theme is chosen by other team, etc, till some team gets advance. Additional themes
are choosen from corresponding package, and if this package is exhausted, themes are sourced from
other packages or from reserve stock.
